Yes, you can run a focus group in a pub!

Matthew Kaye, Consultant writes… Si is currently doing a piece of work for Marie Curie evaluating their Information and Support service. Part of this has involved focus groups with those found to be the least likely to access Marie Curie support. One of these demographics is older men. We got in touch with a London-based Men in Sheds organisation so that we could explore issues around accessing support, Marie Curie’s materials, as well as why older men are less likely to use Marie Curie. In an interesting development, we were offered the chance to run a session at their fortnightly Pub Club meeting. So, we turned up, rather ambivalent, and ...

Smart Guide to Engagement on equality and diversity published

The equality and diversity guide is part of the Smart Guides to Engagement series. It was drafted by Si’s Jackie Harrison and completed by Carol Hayden, drawing on our patient engagement work. The guide helps clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) address issues around equality and diversity. It covers actions to create a more inclusive and responsive NHS that better serves its users and fulfils the NHS’s promise of quality. Much of this is also applicable to service provider organisations commissioned by CCGs. The Smart Guides series can be accessed at www.networks.nhs.uk/nhs-networks/smart-guides.

We see this as a serious risk for them today, and believe it will become an even bigger one in the coming years. In the past few months we have been working with a small number of library services to clarify ...
